What is it about?
Carbon-based nanoparticles can be used as additives to improve agriculture. These materials have large surface areas, absorb light well, and mimic enzymes. Scientists studied how two carbon nitride nanomaterials impacted rice growth. They tested rice seedlings planted in columns filled with soil. After positioning the plants, they introduced the nanomaterials. They allowed the rice plants to grow for a period of four months. At the end of this period, they harvested the mature rice. They studied how the materials influenced various aspects of agriculture. This included plant growth, water quality, soil nutrients, and enzyme activity. The nanomaterials absorbed light and increased photosynthesis. They did not change the amount of rice produced or any of its traits. The vegetative cover, grain weight and organic matter improved.

Why is it important?
Carbon-based nanomaterials have positive effects on crops. They improve the seed germination, crop growth, and soil enzyme activity. They reduce the toxicity of heavy metals in soil. The effect of these materials on plant growth was unclear earlier. These materials can improve rice growth, soil quality, and productivity. KEY TAKEAWAY: The study explored carbon nitride particles as additives. The materials influenced different phases of the rice plant life cycle. The materials can help improve overall agriculture and production. This research relates to the following Sustainable Development Goals: • SDG 2: Zero Hunger • SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production • SDG 13: Climate Action • SDG 15: Life on Land
