Why is it important?

The article discusses concerns relating to capacity issues in community nursing, the upskilling of health care assistants to support the service and patients.

Perspectives

The focus of healthcare in the UK is centered around more patients being cared for at home. However capacity for district nursing teams has been pushed to the limit. New ways of working have to be explored but there must be value attached to upskilling staff and patient safety is paramount. Education and acceptance of change needs to be considered by both patients and staff in order to adapt to the challenges of meeting the future needs of healthcare.
