Why is it important?
This article is the most comprehensive bibliometric analysis and integrated systematic literature review of excellence models research. It is also the first study to investigate excellence models as a stand-alone research subject, adding knowledge to its relationship with total quality management (TQM) and discovering latent and emerging research topics, not only in a quality management perspective, but also on a digital transformation and sustainable development context. This literature review will become essential for consolidating research evidence and generating new ideas to drive future research and contribute to theory on quality management.
Perspectives
Writing this article was a great challenge and a pleasure as it deepens the knowledge on a ongoing discussion in the quality managemen research field. Are excellence models and total quality management (TQM) just different names for the same thing or do they add up to each other?
