What is it about?

Our study describes online students' reactions to an open pedagogy assignment that asked them to use photographs to engage with course concepts in their Introductory Psychology courses. In general, students liked the assignment. We also added to the existing literature by showing connections between student personality traits and their motivations and concerns with open pedagogy.

Why is it important?

Open pedagogy is an educational innovation that asks students to create something that has purpose beyond just their time in the class. In recent years, there has been a large push to also use open pedagogy to increase the diversity of materials available. This study not only included a racially diverse group of students, but it also focused on an assignment whose specific aim was to increase the diversity of photographs available in Introductory Psychology textbooks.
