What is it about?

Some Asian countries do very well on educational tests. Their success seems to depend on careful drill and practice emphasising memory of potential test items. Constructivist approaches applied appropriately make it possible for pupils to learn to work in groups and to cooperate with each other and develop self esteem.

Why is it important?

It is important to know what is involved when schools are compared on the basis of tests. To know what the tests imply and what sorts of other abilities may need attention.

Perspectives

At a time when societies are increasingly interconnected it is important to know what is implied by constructivist education and how it can be used to facilitate cooperative learning.
