Why is it important?

When Indonesian students are assigned to write in English, they have to argue as the English speakers do in order to be effective. Their teachers must be able o help them how to argue appropriately in English. For this purpose, it is necessary to know the differences and similarities on the argument structure commonly found in English and in Indonesian.

Perspectives

The findings of this study show that Indonesian and English spekers argue differently. Indonesian students tend to argue one-sidedly while English speakers also consider their opponent's view on a chosen topic in order to weaken it.
