What is it about?

Trump uses Twitter regularly to portray his enemies and friends. He used Twitter during his 2016 campaign to portray Syrian Refugees as a danger. This paper studies how this is done.

Why is it important?

The paper finds that Trump uses certain terms to portray refugees and establishes a link between them and other immigrants at the southern border of the USA. Thus, the paper can be seen as similar to other immigrant studies but at the same time focuses only on how Syrians are portrayed.

Perspectives

I hope this paper helps people appreciate the role of populist leaders in the portrayal of minorities. I hope it also incentivizes people to question everything a politician says even if it gets one out of their comfort zone.
