Why is it important?

The book entitled, "Islamic Finance and Sustainable Development Balancing Spirituality, Values and Profit" is published by T & F Routledge, UK. This is my recent book written jointly with a colleague at ISTAC which uncovers a new dimension in the study of sustainability, offering balanced development from a spiritual and cultural values perspective. We as authors/editors of this edited volume investigate the role of religion in the debate concerning the many Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and offer an Islamic perspective to environment, social and governance (ESG) issues. Applying a multidimensional approach to socio- economic development, this book contends that Islam offers a unique perspective and framework for sustainable development that is holistic and rooted in spirituality, morality and ethics.

Perspectives

Writing this book was a great pleasure as it has co-editor with whom I have had long standing collaborations such as publishing a book 'SDG 18 Spirituality, Values and Culture for Humanising Sustainable Development-A Future Worldview". This book also lead to rare contributions by subject matter experts in Islamic thoughts, Sustainable development (SDGs) and practitioners in an Islamic banking and finance area.
