Why is it important?

The chapter considers ways of addressing the study of word meaning across different languages both synchronically and diachronically, using corpora and other digital tools. It addresses the ways in which the different semantic evolution of lexis in different langauges creates challenges for translators.

Perspectives

This chapter gave the authors an opportunity to reflect on how corpus tools can be combined with other digital resources - WordNets and the Historical Thesaurus of English - to explore the nature of word meanings across languages in new and exciting ways.
