What is it about?
In this chapter, I discuss the differences and difficulties I found during the tumultuous, nerve-racking process of completing a PhD as an older, working class man. The subject of my research very personal and extremely sensitive: male involuntary childlessness.

Why is it important?
This chapter highlights the personal and emotional ups and downs of completing a PhD.
Perspectives
I hope this chapter reveals the emotional impact that completing a PhD has. I have written from my experiences as a working class older man. I highlight the personal and political and the impact it had on me. I hope this piece is helpful, supportive and illuminating.
