Why is it important?

Each individual has different lumbar stabilizing muscle strength, and the relative intensity of exercises varies; hence, lumbar stabilization exercise programs should comprise different exercises of varying intensity to maximize therapeutic benefit. It is worth noting that we used stabilization exercises for different reasons. The first purpose of gradable stabilization exercises is safety. The second purpose of using gradable stabilization exercises is to improve efficiency. Due to the lack of time and boredom, most patients find it difficult to exercise for more than 30 minutes per day. Therefore, we designed each exercise session so that it could be finished within 30 minutes. In the present study, compliance with gradable stabilization exercises was high. The short duration programs and minimal postures in the five basic positions and hospital-based home exercise programs are thought to be the main factors of the high compliance.

Perspectives

This exercise is easy to follow and composed of only several postures, therefore the patients can do this protocol as a home-based treatment.
