What is it about?

Research has a pivotal role towards advancements seen in the medical world. Doctors adopting research careers have done a tremendous job in making us understand many truths about science. Over the past years, there has been a decline in the number of physician scientists. It has been realized that early medical student research experiences are important to inculcate an interest in research. We conducted this study to find out why medical students have been driven away from research.

Why is it important?

We found that students showed a lack of interest in research with the perception that research was useless, believing researchers are cut-off from clinical practice. Another reason for lack of interest of students was inadequate internet facilities. The faculty and policy makers should address these issues in order to promote a culture of research. It would ensure a stronger research oriented medical community, and a better understanding of physicians towards complex medical scenarios.
