Laboratory apparatus to assess the filling of cracks in the core of dams with granular materials

What is it about?

in this paper we developed a new test cell that allows to simulate three zones of an embankment dam: the upstream shell, the core and the downstream filter. Focus is putted on the investigation of the ability (mainly) of granular materials to be pushed into cracks in the core and downstream filter. Interesting paper that shows innovative experiments of internal erosion along cracks in the core of zoned dams.
