What is it about?
The water retention test involving a continuous pressurization method (CPM) was newly proposed to obtain the soil–water characteristic curve (SWCC) of soils. In particular, for the measurement of the transient pore water pressure inside specimen according to the applied pore air pressure, a microtensiometer was placed vertically at the center of the specimen. The SWCC of soils can be obtained quickly and easily using this method.

Why is it important?
This study focused on a water retention test involving the pressure plate method and the continuous pressurization method (CPM) to reduce the time required for obtaining the SWCC of soils. The water retention test involving the CPM is expected to offer an alternative to the pressure plate method involving the conventional stepwise pressurization method (SPM) for its higher efficiency and shorter duration.
