This paper is about when speakers of Vietnamese include or omit the subject of their sentences in reported speech in naturally occurring conversations.

Why is it important?
Little research has been done on Vietnamese grammar in context in interaction. Research on reported speech has not examined how speakers utilize the options to mark the source that are available in languages such as Vietnamese.
