Proper hearing evaluation should include hearing sensitivity as well as auditory processing to ensure actual hearing status. This is an editorial focusing on different hearing measures and introducing innovative research at UCL on APD and Friedreich’s ataxia.

Why is it important?

Different hearing phenotypes are linked to specific genotypes. Early diagnosis of APD may lead to better cognition in neurological patients.


Early diagnosis and rehabilitation of APD, a specific type of hearing impairment may result in alleviating cognitive deficits in patients with Friedreich’s Ataxia.
