What is it about?
Learners of Cantonese participated in a group interview, sharing their problems and concerns during the learning process – well beyond linguistic challenges, partly social on the part of Cantonese speakers they interacted with.

Why is it important?
Many wanted to learn Cantonese (as a foreign language) in Hong Kong, ending up in frustration however. This article provides empirical findings and insights why this is so from various learners’ own vantage points.
Perspectives
As co-authors, we are gratified by what many learners of Cantonese were ready to share their views with us upon our invitation. We hope this article can help make a qualitative difference in the learning experiences of other learners of Cantonese in Hong Kong.
