What is it about?

Tubulointerstitial fibrosis is observed in diabetic nephropathy. In this study, we investigated the cellular and molecular changes induced by high glucose concentration (HG) in human tubular cell cultures. Our findings show that HG promotes an activated state in tubular cells and induces a pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrogenic response, supporting the active role of tubular cells in diabetic nephropathy onset.
