What is it about?

This publication reports the characterization of the interaction between cFLIP and calmodulin and proposes a role for calmodulin in DISC-mediated apoptosis. We identify a short helical segment within the N-terminal death effector domain of cFLIP as responsible for the interaction and describe his three-dimensional structure when bound to Calmodulin.

Why is it important?

The results of this work implicate a role for calmodulin in DISC-mediated apoptosis. The characterization of the calmodulin / cFLIP protein-protein interaction opens the way for the development of inhibitors that may affect the apoptotic pathway regulation.
