What is it about?

FASTCORE is an algorithm that build compact-context specific models in the time frame of seconds. It requires as input a set of core reactions (reactions known to be expressed in the context of interest) and generic genome-wide reconstruction as i.e. ReconX or HMRs

Why is it important?

FASTCORE is several orders of magnitudes faster than its competitors and is devoided of free parameters. Low computational demands allows performing left-out cross-validations that assign a confidence score to the model s reactions and by such fasten the manual curation process. It allows also the high-throughput building of models for the integration of patient data. FASTCORE outperforms also the competitors in the ability to capture metabolic variations between different tissues and cell types.

Perspectives

FASTCORE was the first algorithm that allow the building of models in less than 1 minutes and by such opens the perspective to use metabolic models in a high-throughput manner.
