What is it about?

Acting on health in/equity can mean many different things. But information on the different categories for action is scarce. This study asks the research question: “what conceptual approaches exist in striving for health equity and/or reducing health inequity?” with the aim of presenting a comprehensive overview of approaches.

Why is it important?

Despite health equity being mainstream and commonplace in the fields of global and public health, discussions around health equity tend to remain vague. This work is important because a lack of conceptual clarity on the differing approaches to action can prevent united action and potentially inhibit public policy action altogether.

Perspectives

Health equity and health inequity can mean many different things to different people. This work's aim of developing a foundational document of approaches can promote clarity of thought across stakeholders. This is particularly important when working with those outside of the health sector, as others' understanding(s) of health equity may vary, thus, also promoting united action.
