What is it about?

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most deadly cancer in Indonesia with 9.5% mortality rates of all cancer cases. One of the reason is caused by late detection and diagnosis. Colorectal cancer screening is expected to reduce health burden and find pre-cancer lesion. Primary health care is the first line defense against cancer especially in CRC screening program. There was a national consensus on recommendations, however, we found several barriers to CRC screenings.

Why is it important?

We provided the first study involving primary health care in a multicenters manner to implement colorectal cancer screening in Indonesia. This research was conducted to determine the prevalence, adenoma detection rate, and public compliance regarding CRC screening. Moreover, it can be used as an evidence for developing CRC screening strategies.

Perspectives

The role of primary care in Colorectal Cancer Program is highly important. The CRC screening program based on a primary care should be widely implemented. Moreover, further public educational program are necessary to reduce barriers to program
