What is it about?

This article describes a new and more modern technical option for performing sentinel lymph node biopsy in patients with breast cancer. The use of indocyanine green associated with fluorescence proved to be effective and an alternative for axillary surgery in the breast oncology scenario.

Why is it important?

The fluorescence technique becomes an applicable tool in hospitals that do not have a nuclear medicine service. Furthermore, our study showed that this technique reduced surgical time. An additional benefit is that it does not leave a dermal tattoo on patients who use this technique.

Perspectives

We hope to disseminate this technique to the entire medical community, especially breast surgeons who still use the patent blue dye to this day.
