What is it about?

Developed local protocol based in guidelines for controlling stree induced hyperglycemia in critically ill patients. This protocol was developed after conducting gap analysis of the current practice and its outcome on patients. In Sudan sliding scale of s. C insulin is still used widely in the icu leading to poor control.

Why is it important?

In Sudan sliding scale of s. C insulin is still used widely in the icu leading to poor control. We developed a protocol for hyperglycemia control in icu patients wuth different backgrounds and comorbidities.

Perspectives

Lack of knowledge of both doctors and nurses about stress induced hyperglycemai was the main obsticle. The wide use of s.c sliding scale insulin rather than insulin infusion had lead to poor outcome. The developed proticol have covered all scenarios of icu patients and well explained the use and administration of the new control methods either infusion of basal bolus.
