What is it about?
Ceylon cinnamon, true cinnamon or Cinnamomum zeylanicum is native to Sri Lanka. True cinnamon, king of the spice world traded globally through out the centuries without highlighting its origin. Authenticity of labels matters with generic term cinnamon, used for both true Cinnamon and Cassia.

Why is it important?
Authentic labels are a responsibility of manufacturers and a right of consumers. Labels of value added cinnamon products appeared in the international market ignore both and pushed consumers towards to a decision making puzzle. Correct labeling information is essential for consumers to make choice over Coumarin (carcinogenic compound) containing Cassia over true Cinnamon.
Perspectives
Highlights of this work is three fold; protect consumer rights on label information and support decision making, secure market position of true cinnamon, centuries old king of spice along with artisanal cinnamon peelers who make unique cinnamon quill, and avoid potential health hazards of Coumarin, especially vulnerable consumers
