What is it about?

The study shows that atrial function and left ventricle structure, diastolic properties and pressures determine left atrium deformation measurements in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Left atrium deformation measurements are associated with indices of exercise tolerance, and the subsequent development of atrial fibrillation in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Why is it important?

Left atrium deformation measurements are increasingly utilized to gain insight into left ventricle function. This study shows what determines these measurements and how left atrial deformation is related to functional status and the rhythm problem of atrial fibrillation in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Perspectives

The study sheds light on how to draw conclusions about left ventricle and left atrium functions based on left atrium deformation measurements in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
