What is it about?

The Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) system is widely used for the classification of human movement and the generation of movement. The system is popular and widely used in both, the arts as well in the engineering domain. In our study, we investigate how reliable the LMA system is for describing human movement.

Why is it important?

Despite this wide use, LMA itself has only been partially investigated in terms of its reliability. Our paper presents the first study that systematically investigates the reliability of LMA in all its dimensions. Our results show that LMA does provide a good balance between encoding effort and consistency. Given the fundamental importance of reliability, the paper lays an important foundation for the use of LMA in different technical and non-technical disciplines.
