What is it about?
Collects for the first time all alliterating word pairs in the Old High German works of Notker der Deutsche (a.k.a. Notker Labeo, Notker der III.) and analyses them philologically (incl. phonetics, morphology, semantics, syntax, pragmatics), where applicable comparing the OHG formulation with its Latin source(s). When known, parallel German formulations are cited. Provides evidence for the earliest usage of certain paired expressions. Contributes to rhetorical analysis of Noter's work.

Why is it important?
Provides both data for future reference and a model for analysis of phraseological material. Forms basis for ongoing study of such expressions, moving from OHG to (Early) Middle High German and beyond.
