What is it about?

This paper was the first to describe in detail the key variables involved in material loss from the head stem taper junction. It was the first to describe validated volumetric wear analysis of the head taper. The dominant implant factors identified (and substantiated in subsequent papers) were bearing diameter, offset and taper angles. *Note, further below is a photograph of an Articular Surface Replacement (ASR) XL head with Corail taper adaptor. The arrows represent the taper engagement level.
