What is it about?

Parafricta Bootees are a low friction fabric garment. When worn, we have evidenced they reduce shear and friction forces and through micro movements improves the micro circulation. This paper explains the results of three evaluations in care settings with the use of a pressure mapping system.

Why is it important?

Heel pressure ulcers are one if the highest occurring incidences in pressure damage. There is more research around bio mechanical forces and how pressure ulcers develop, it is important to consider these factors and understand how prevention can occur with low friction fabric garments. This evaluation shows the reduction in peak pressures when the bootees are in use with pressure mapping systems

Perspectives

I feel this article is important in how we approach prevention of heel pressure ulcers, I hope it will make a difference to the incidence of heel ulcers if adopted in to other areas of clinical practice, as has been in my Trust. We have to look further into how Pressure ulcer develop and preventative strategies in all care settings. I hope you find this article though-provoking.
