What is it about?

Character strengths are the individual’s capacity for thoughts, emotions and behaviours and when these are in balance, they help people to flourish in life. Most find it easier to remember their areas for improvement more readily because of the brain’s built in negativity bias and often people do not have a meaningful awareness of their own strengths,Therefore, it would seem that to be able to identify and discuss one’s own strengths with knowledge and confidence would be a real asset in the workplace and beyond.

Why is it important?

Character strengths assessment is a valid and reliable positive psychology intervention. Awareness and development of signature strengths leads to increased wellbeing. This paper explores how this can be undertaken in a cost effective and user friendly way by applying the latest research findings.

Perspectives

This article enabled me to research the development of character strengths as a positive psychology intervention from a theoretical and applied perspective and link it to my own research involving emerging character strength profiles in health and social care workers. It is thrilling to consider how it may benefit being introduced more widely and be developed for both employee and employer to flourish.
