What is it about?

End-of-life represents a period of intensive acute and non-acute workload. This study uses monthly data from 2014 to 2017 fir deaths in England and Wales to demonstrate that workload can vary significantly from one month to the next and from one year to the next.

Why is it important?

The workload is the basis for costs and staffing must flex either via overtime, part-time or temporary staff. Using annual totals will significantly underestimate these costs.
