What is it about?
The trend in crude death rates in English hospitals follows a step-up/step-down trajectory which is unexplained by all currently accepted mechanisms. The step-up periods are accompanied by a simultaneous increase in all-cause mortality and an associated (unexplained) increase in medical emergency admissions.

Why is it important?
This strange behavior seen in the crude in-hospital death rate is accompanied by very small area spread of a presumed infectious agent which triggers a step-increase in medical emergency admissions for a defined group of diagnoses/conditions.
Perspectives
These events have been occurring for many years and can be traced back to the 1950's and probably earlier. It would seem that it is politically expedient to continue blaming the NHS for the ensuing financial 'failure' arising from the alarming increase in deaths and emergency admissions accompanying these events.
