What is it about?
In the UK the number of deaths in 2012 showed a very large and unexplained increase. This increase showed very high spatial granularity and was accompanied by an increase in emergency admissions.

Why is it important?
No official explanation has ever been offered. The behavior seen is characteristic of a novel type of infectious outbreak.
Perspectives
UK government agencies seem to have an aversion to attempting to explain this behavior which was repeated again in 2014 and 2016. The evidence shows examples of this behavior before 2012. Part of a longer series demonstrating that these events are seemingly driven by outbreaks of a difficult to transmit but aggressive agent, see http://www.hcaf.biz/2010/Publications_Full.pdf
