Contrary to popular misconception GP referrals increase as a series of steps with seeming little involvement from population demographic change. This article investigates changes in dermatology first attendance during one of these events occurring roughly around 2007/2008.

Why is it important?
If you wish to understand health care costs you need to understand the fundamental mechanisms behind growth. Step-like increases are a foreign concept in health care and hence go totally unnoticed because they are not supposed to be there.
