What is it about?
The English HRG tariff is used to pay providers for their health care activity. However the short stay tariff which included both same day and 1 day stays encourages gaming and unfairly rewards those organisations which 'admit' patients as a same day stay rather than as an A&E attendance.

Why is it important?
Any tariff system should avoid gaming and should promote equity rather than financial imbalance.
Perspectives
