What is it about?
While hospital bed numbers in the UK have consistently declined and number of occupied bed days has remained roughly constant. Bed occupancy has therefore steadily increased.

Declining bed numbers were supposedly to be offset by a shift into non-acute care. This did not materialize.
Perspectives
