What is it about?
The HRG tariff is used in England to pay providers for health care activity. For an acute admission there is a maximum length of stay in each HRG called the trim-point above which a daily rate applies. The assumptions in the tariff are at variance with the actual behavior of costs

Why is it important?
Incorrect assumptions lead to incorrect prices which create financial imbalance.
Perspectives
The HRG tariff has been constantly promoted as 'world leading'. The reality is vastly different and the tariff is actually the product of political compromise and flawed supposition. For the entire series see http://www.hcaf.biz/2010/Publications_Full.pdf
