Why is it important?

The importance in taking time to treat the whole of the patient rather than just the immediate obvious problem will not only improve outcomes and quality of life for patients, but will ultimately save nursing time and NHS resources which are increasingly over-stretched.

Perspectives

Despite training as a nurse over 30 years ago I hope this editorial shows that despite modernisation and the development of IT systems, assessment tools, treatments etc. in nursing and in wound care, the importance of treating each patient individually and holistically still underpins general nursing practice and wound prevention and management.
