What is it about?

Our study looks at the care that new mothers receive after giving birth in Indonesia. Sadly, many mothers die during this time. We wanted to find out why some mothers don't get the care they need. We used information from a big survey and found that many mothers in certain parts of Indonesia don't get the care they should. We also found that some things, like how much money a family has or how close they live to a hospital, can make a difference. Our study suggests that Indonesia should make sure all mothers get the right care after giving birth, no matter where they live. This can help more mothers stay healthy and reduce the number of mothers who die.

Why is it important?

Our study focuses on a crucial issue in Indonesia – the health of new mothers after childbirth. We address the concerning fact that a significant number of maternal deaths occur during the postnatal period. Our research dives into the factors that influence the use of postnatal care services among mothers in different regions of Indonesia. This topic is particularly timely due to the ongoing efforts to improve maternal health and reduce maternal mortality rates.

I feel personally connected to our publication's focus on maternal health in Indonesia. Addressing the high maternal mortality rate, especially postnatally, is a privilege and responsibility. Our study highlights regional disparities in postnatal care utilization, urging targeted interventions for better accessibility and quality. I hope our work drives policy changes and inspires real-world improvements in maternal healthcare, promoting equity and a healthier future for Indonesian mothers.
