What is it about?

In this paper I explore how cultures, jobs, religions, sports and leisure pursuits require that people coordinate thought with particular body techniques. I am interested here in how different types of mental and physical learning have to be coordinated if someone is going to be successful in a particular role or occupation.

Why is it important?

This paper addresses an under researched area - how thought and feeling, body and mind are related.

Perspectives

There has been a growing amount of research into the body techniques - or what I've referred to as body pedagogics - associated with different roles and practices, but no one has yet adequately conceptualised the significance of thought and reflection to these processes. This paper seeks to put thought and cognition back into studies of the body.
