What is it about?

This commentary is a book review and discussion of Boulton's Aboriginal children, history and health: beyond social determinants, Routledge, Oxford & NY, 2015. ISBN: 978-1-138-95524-0 (233 pages). The book raises the issues of indigenous child health from a broad humanities perspective. In the end, it does not show a way forward because ultimately it is Aboriginal communities and language groups which need to institute change which preserves the key aspects of their culture while encouraging improvements in child health outcomes. It also ignores some of the advances in our understanding of the medical issues affecting Aboriginal child growth, such as environmental enteropathy and child care issues.
