What is it about?

Edentulous patients in maxillary molar and premolar area were enrolled in this study. A total of 138 implant sites were prepared through osteotome bone condensing but with two different procedures. Electrical mallet was employed in test group while hand mallet was used in control group. Dental implants were immediately loaded and radiological check-ups were set at 6 , 12, 24 months

Why is it important?

No statistically significant difference was found from test group to control group. Bone height around dental implants remained stable over time in both groups. Apart from these results, patients operated with electrical mallets reported a more comfortable experience

Perspectives

The study wanted to introduce an unfamiliar surgical device in the practice of implant dentistry. Despite some clinical advantages that we found out to be interesting, we showed how the operator skills do not differ depending on the type of device used for the surgery
