What is it about?

Asthma is not just one disease. there may be underlying factors such as allergy, infection, pollution or a combination of these.The respiratory epithelium appears to be the site at which initiating factors operate and the upper airway is initially affected in some types of asthma, including allergic and aspirin - sensitive.

Why is it important?

It brings together for the first time ideas about factors in the epithelium which might allow infection to occur more easily, the presence of bacteria inside epithelial cells, chronic inflammation plus allergy and aspirin sensitivity

Perspectives
