Why is it important?

The article investigates the reasons of lower flows in equity mutual funds compared to other investment alternatives based on analysis of investor behaviour.

Perspectives

Despite the existence of mutual funds since 1960's, there is lower preference for them among the Indian investors compared to other investment alternatives. The study is important as it provides that non-investment behaviour for mutual funds has been due to poor awareness about the product. Further this poor awareness has been related to certain sections of the society.
