What is it about?

When a lateral force is applied to the walking biped robot, the robot can step aside for evading the external force. The manuscript suggested a posture control methodology for the biped robot to step aside safely.

Why is it important?

Until the publication, there had been no research regarding the step aside method for a walking biped robot under a continuous lateral force. The proposed method can be applied to other step aside situations.

Perspectives

The proposed method was validated by a small-sized biped robot with point mass modeling. A human-size biped robot needs more rigorous works to apply the proposed method.
