What is it about?
In the studied material hydrogen-bonded carboxylic acid dimer with a strong hydrogen bond is observed. Until now only six crystal structures with identical symmetry relation between carboxylic groups have been described.

Why is it important?
Crystalline materials with disordered H atoms are of interest in enzyme action, thermochromism and ferroelectricity. They are also of interest for scientists studying quantum tunnelling.
