What is it about?

To develop a way to create more effective solutions to problems in society, we need new and novel ways to encourage innovation in teams, building upon established design methods. While transport systems developers often consult the public, their methods are often traditional (e.g. focus groups) and lack creativity that designers use to generate innovative results. Because of this, valuable insights of the public are not being used to their best advantage. This paper explores how using co-design techniques as part of a public consultation can generate more innovative solutions to problems than traditional methods.

Why is it important?

To produce more innovative solutions to problems in society, this paper shows that developers need to use more creative methods from the design field, such as co-design. While traditional consultation methods will always have their place, not engaging in co-design activities is robbing the project of solutions that are effective and beneficial to society.

Perspectives

We kill the idea that creative design methods are 'fun, but not for the serious business word'. Developers can create services that help more people by collaborating with teams of non-designers to explore new solutions.
