What is it about?
Burukutu and Pito are indigenous alcoholic drinks in Northern Nigeria especially in the middle belt. We have been able to determine the compounds responsible for its flavour. It is also of great importance to note that ethanol is not one of the constituents.

Why is it important?
The erroneous believe that the drinks are high in ethanol is corrected. The ethanol-like effect is due to the presence of other alcohols present in the drink. The significance of each of the constituents were explained.
