What is it about?
Despite numerous barriers, girls and young women in Kenya, India, the Philippines, and South Africa are using digital technology to express themselves, create multimedia, collaborate, and support each other to fight for their rights.

Why is it important?
This paper shows that some girls and young women have been able to overcome barriers to ICT use (e.g., violence, gender discrimination, social mores), and they are not simply users. They are activists and creators using ICT to change the conditions of their lives.
Perspectives
Writing this article was a good opportunity to get to know the work of Take Back the Tech! campaigners and partners better and improve my understanding of the contexts in which they live, work, play, and resist. The interviews were rich with hope and progress despite the pervasive threats faced by stakeholders.
